The instruments I teach

Darren is also available to play at wedding ceremonies to make your day that little bit more special. Contact Darren for more details on the program of music.

The Clarinet

The Clarinet is part of the woodwind family and is a single reed instrument. It is used in Orchestras, Jazz, Military and Big Bands. It’s a fantastic instrument for young students wanting to learn an instrument for the first time. Students can start on the Clarinet and later learn the Saxophone as the two are very similar to blow.

The Flute

The Flute is a woodwind instrument and is used in Orchestras, Big bands, Military bands and can also be used to perform Pop Music. The sound is made by blowing across the hole on the mouthpiece. The Flute is ideal for young children to learn as it is very light. In some cases it can be used with a curved head joint, this brings the flute closer to the student and makes it easier to reach the keys (mainly for very young students).

The Saxophone

The Saxophone is the biggest and heaviest of the three instruments and is part of the woodwind family. It is probably the most versatile instrument in the world and can be used to play anything from Classical to Rock music. As the Saxophone is quite heavy, the students need to be a reasonable size before starting to learn. Darren will assess your size if you are concerned.
